Server Architecture

For a large scale multi-user database it is essential to have the proper infrastructure for storing massive data and fast data retrieval. The implemented system consists of two major elements. A database server for data storage powered by Oracle 9i which provides fast searching and data retrieval capability as it uses object-relational approach to store XML type data. The other element is a Java J2EE application server (powered by Sun One) provide services to upload, download, browse and search neuroanatomical data, both via a web interface (html) and directly communicating XML to the 3D client tools.
